about
This is the first produced single from my self-imposed, one-new-song-per-week pandemic writing challenge. Starting in April of 2020, I decided to write and post a song a week for one year, which I posted each week on YouTube. The original version of this song can be heard there. I plan to release most of the songs in produced versions, and some of the songs will be released as The Modern Airline, a five-piece, Brooklyn New Wave band that I'm part of.
lyrics
Excuse me for a moment while I sort it out
As you can see it's a bit of a mess
the highlights
and the triumphs
the resplendent glories
got tossed in and mixed up with the rest
and I hope to find
what it is I'm after
before it's all stained and streaked
I won't drag my feet
some of the bags
are starting to leak
and who knows what I'll find when I let some light in
I'm sure there's so much I've forgotten
but I know now what to keep closed tight
you don't always have to look
to tell something's rotten
and if I find what it is I'm after
before this dream is dead
then I won't lose my head
if some of the bags
have started to shred
(CHORUS)
it's in here somewhere
I know I'm almost there
I can taste it
and smell it in the air
trust me
it's in here somewhere
And I'll make my way along by feeling
whenever day turns into night
climbing up over mountains of garbage
high enough to reach the light
I'll keep digging through this mess
although you keep insisting
I'm not listening
that some of the bags
have gone missing
CHORUS
and I hope to find
what it is I'm after
before it's all stained and streaked
I won't drag my feet
some of the bags are starting to leak
CHORUS
